Easter is coming up soon, so I was looking for an appropriate soft toy to make for young children. I came across this small toy Peter Rabbit and Friends knitting pattern which is just what I was searching for.

Children love the Beatrix Potter story so they can relate to it as they play with these small creatures. The pattern also comes with instructions to make a small egg cosy – which is a bonus.

The Pattern

The instructions can be purchased and downloaded directly from the website – just click the image.

It is described as a beginner-level pattern so it’s ideal for a new knitter who is keen to make their first project. If you are an advanced knitter then you’ll have all the family made up in no time.

Yarn?

The recommended yarn is from the Paintbox Yarns Simply Double Knitting Range.

The main colours needed are a ‘caramelly’ beige and a misty grey shade. Small amounts of black, blue, white, pink, red and green are also used.

Needles

The designer Hennie has used 3.25mm single-pointed needles to make these delightful creatures.

What Else Do You Need?

You will also need some toy stuffing and a large-eyed needle for sewing up.

This project is ideal for those new to the hobby of knitting but who have also mastered the basic stitches such as knit and purl, decreases and increases and now want to make something with those skills. Once made they make delightful toys for young children in the family. They could also be made for fundraising projects.

I love the way this pattern offers a variety of little rabbits to make.
