Rupert the Bear & Friends Soft Toys & Jumper Knitting Pattern

Book full of Rupert the Bear Knitting Patterns

While thinking of animal knitting patterns as ideas for Christmas gifts, I came across this knitting pattern for soft toys of Rupert the Bear and his friends. The characters created originally by Mary Tourtel for the longest-running comic strip (over 100 years now) are well known by young children, especially in the United Kingdom, where they were created.

The instructions to make these delightful toys come in book form. In it, you’ll be able to make the main figures of Rupert, Bill Badger and Tigerlily. You’ll also be able to make jumpers with the main character done in intarsia colour work on the front.

To make this well-known character with his red jumper and yellow checked scarf, and trousers you will need to be an intermediate level knitter. A keen beginner who is willing to learn what techniques are needed, using YouTube for instructions, would be able to achieve this project too.

The jumper requires knowledge of intarsia colourwork, which, though not difficult, would take a bit of extra time to master. Use it as a challenge if you are keen to make one for a young child. There is nothing like the present to learn something new.

I have seen a few other patterns to make this special bear, but they don’t come with the ability to make his friends, nor do they have the jumper instructions. What I like about this book is that you get additional projects to make.
