With the colder weather just around the corner, I have been looking for a slipper sock knitting pattern that’s free and knitted flat on 2 needles and in a chunky yarn.
Chunky yarn knits up quickly and is nice and warm. I found this pattern that fits my criteria and knits up to give a cosy sock slipper look.
It’s created by well-known designer Debbie Bliss

Free Pattern
This design is available at no cost. So if you are not sure about your ability to cope with socks try this one. Use it to get into the way of knitting footwear before you invest in other paid patterns.

This project covers shoe sizes from 4 to 7.
The footwear is mainly done in garter stitch, which tends to be a bit thicker than stockinette stitch. The cuffs are done in ribbing, and they fold down over the ankle for more warmth.
The socks are knitted flat using 2 needles, so no worries about using circulars or any complex knitting techniques.
Use Chunky Weight Yarn
The suggested yarn is from the Debbie Bliss CashMerino Chunky range
Needles ?
If you go with the chunky yarn recommended you will then need a pair of 6mm (US size 10) and a pair of 5.5mm (US Size 9) straight single-point knitting needles.
The bigger diameter needles are used to do the ribbing section around the ankles, and then you change to the slightly smaller ones for the body of the rest of the sock.
I like the smoothness and metallic colour of the KnitPro Zing needles which would be perfect for this project.
Knitting Stitches Required?
1 X1 Ribbing
You will need to understand what 1 by 1 ribbing is – that is, knit one stitch, then purl one stitch, and repeat across the row.
SKPO
Slip one stitch, knit one stitch then pass the slipped stitch over <== click this link to see how it is done
If you are looking to make a pair of warm slipper socks for yourself, or as a gift – maybe for Christmas – then this one might be just what you need. It’s a quick project, so if time is short, then this one could be your answer.
The thing that I like best about this project is that you don’t need complex techniques often required on other sock patterns.
