This collection of knitted toys was created by well-known designer Amanda Berry, so you can be sure that they will be well written and easy to follow. I have made knitted toys from her patterns – such as this Jack Russell knitted toy dog and have always found them to be easy to follow.

What Knitting Skills are Needed?

The pattern states that the skill level is set at advanced, however, I am not an advanced knitter and managed to cope with the techniques required. If you are a keen beginner and are prepared to find out how to do a certain technique on YouTube.com, then there’s no reason why you can’t make these dogs. They are knitted flat, then seamed up and filled with toy filling. The shaping is done with increases and decreases.

What Breed of Toy Dogs Do You Get with the Pattern?

Pattern #1 – Busta the Bulldog

This small knitted dog toy is perfect for little hands and big imaginations. It is knitted from various shapes, flat ( no circulars needed) and stands around 22cm high. As you can see in the image, he is done in two shades of grey and black. The recommended yarn is double knitting. You will need 3.75mm straight single-pointed needles. A pair of safety eyes ( or you can embroider them) is needed to complete the face. You will also need some toy filling and a blunt-end large-eyed tapestry needle with which to sew up the shapes together.

Pattern #2 – Dudley the Pugg

Dudley stands around 21cm tall. You will need the same notions as described above for Busta the bulldog. To make Dudley, you’ll need 100g balls each of double knitting yarn in brown coloured yarns – oatmeal, chocolate and black.

Among our favorite knitting patterns for toys, this sweet beagle stands out with its lifelike charm and super-soft snuggle factor. With classic beagle coloring, floppy ears, and a curled tail, it’s a favorite with both kids and collectors alike.

Pattern #3 – Jarvis the Spaniel

This adorable dog toy – Jarvis would make a perfect companion for children at bedtime or as a their travel buddy. He has loopy ears, which are perfect for cuddling. This pattern requires some intarsia colourwork knowledge ( easily learned) and knowledge of knitting loops.

Pattern #4 – Paris the Poodle

Paris the poodle would make the perfect handmade gift for a small child to cherish. He stands at around 21cm tall, and needs 100g ball each of a grey, white and black double knitting yarn. Like Jarvis the Spaniel, you’ll need to learn how to do the loop stitch to be able to give him the right curly effect.
