I love the texture and the interesting knit and purl combinations designed into this free cabled sweater vest knitting pattern.
At first glance, you might think, “Wow, that’s beautiful, but it looks difficult!” However, looking closer and reading the description, it becomes apparent that this sleeveless pullover is made from mainly knits and purls combined, as well as three lines of cables down the front.
Paintbox Yarns, from whom the pattern comes, even recommends that a keen beginner could do this one.

Yarn Weight?
The garment in the image has been knitted with Paintbox Yarns Worsted Wool Blend yarn. Worsted yarns are medium-weight yarns similar to Aran but slightly lighter.
Needle Sizes?
The design uses 3.75mm ( US 5 ) and 4.5mm (US 7 ) knitting needles as well as a cable needle if you like to use one.
There is a technique to do simple cables like the ones in this pattern without using a cable needle. Visit this post to find out how this is done.
Other Supplies Needed?
A tapestry needle is needed to sew the seams.
One of the best features of this pattern is that it uses knitting skills that a beginner can cope with if they are prepared to take it slowly and learn how to do the cables which are not complicated. Cabling is just knitting stitches out of their normal sequence.
Print the pattern out and check off each row as you work it and you’ll find it is do-able.
