Easy Eyelet Knit and Purl Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern

I love the delicate, dainty design in this easy eyelet knit and purl baby knitted blanket pattern. It’s perfect for swaddling a tiny newborn baby.

If you are looking for a knitting project to make up quickly, or if you are a beginner looking for a simple stitch, then take a look at this pattern.

This item is one of the many lace and botanical patterns that have been created by Vicky Chan Designs

Where to get the Pattern

You can get the pattern at no cost – just click the image of the blanket to be taken to the website from where you can download it.

The instructions result in a blanket that is 90cm (35.5 inches ) by 76cm ( 30 inches ), but it can be scaled up if you want to make one that is bigger, maybe as a lap blanket or a throw for a bed.

One of the key things that I like about this pattern is that you can use different needles and yarn – it will still work out – the size is all that will change.

The whole design has a border done in a garter stitch. The dainty design is done by repeating the 28 rows pattern.

Yarn?

Vicky Chan has used double knitting yarn, but you can use a different yarn if you wish – as previously stated, the size will change if you do this.

Needles?

As you’d imagine, you will need to cast on many stitches – 205, so it is best to use a 60cm 4mm (US 6) circular knitting needle or a circular that matches the yarn you are using. Read more about why circular needles are used when knitting blankets here.

Other Supplies Needed?

Stitch markers are useful bits of knitting equipment that will help to mark the borders.

When the project is done, you will also need to use a tapestry needle to weave in the loose ends.

Stitches You Need To Know How to Do

This pattern requires that you know –

  • how to cast on and off
  • how to knit and purl
  • how to knit 2 stitches together
  • how to do a yarn over
  • how to do a skp — Slip 1 knitwise, k1, pass slipped st over.

The instructions for the 28 row repeat are detailed with row-by-row instructions and also in the form of a chart.

If you’re looking for an easy pattern – the end result of which looks like it is far more complicated than it is – then give this one a try. As long as you are prepared to mark off each row as you finish them, this one is do-able and it looks really beautiful.
