This design is an ideal first project for beginners as it only requires knowledge of the knit and purl stitches. These are the first stitches new knitters learn how to do, along with casting on and off.
What Yarn Is Recommended?
This design uses a double knitting weight of yarn. However, if you use another type of yarn, it will still work, though you may have to adjust the number of stitches you cast on and the size of needles used.
If you have double knitting in your stash (most of us do, as it is a popular weight of yarn), use that first, then for the next headband, try out and play around with a different yarn weight.
Needles ?
As the recommended yarn is double knitting, the corresponding needles will be around 4 to 6mm (US 6 to 8) If however, you decide to use another weight of yarn then you’ll need to alter the needle size.
Knitting Skills Needed?
For this project you’ll only need to know how to cast on and off, and how to do the knit and purl stitches. If you choose to use it, there are instructions to make a flower that will add more interest to the knitted headband.

What I like best about this design is that it is a perfect first-time knitting project for those who have just begun their knitting journey, and also that it can be done with a small investment to get the pattern, and leftover yarn.
