If you are looking for a DIY Mother’s Day gift idea, consider making this knitted washcloth pattern in the diamond brocade design.
Since discovering all the designs for these little cloths on Pinterest and other places online, I am just addicted to knitting them!
The latest one I have made has a pretty diamond brocade design. I thought I’d make it a bit bigger and give it to my Mom as a bathroom washcloth for Mothering Sunday as we call it here in the UK. Her bathroom has a pink theme so I chose an appropriate coloured yarn.
After first trying the easy garter stitch basic dishcloth project I wanted to try something with more of an attractive pattern. This diamond brocade style may look difficult but it was not at all.
It’s just purls and knits done at a certain point in the row to create the diamond shapes. If you follow the pattern carefully this pattern is easy to create! From start to finish, it should not take more than an afternoon to knit up one of these.

What You Will Need
Dishcloths and washcloths need to be knitted in 100% cotton yarn. I used Cotton DK and a short pair of 4mm needles like these here
You’ll need a blunt ended, large eyed needle to sew in your threads when you are done.
So, that’s all you will need to do this project. Dishcloths or washcloths make nice little gifts for special occasions like Mother’s Day. I plan on making three, then bundling them up with some ribbon and adding a handmade cake of soap. Add a bunch of flowers to that and I think I should have a personal gift that my mother will appreciate.
Besides creating a personalized gift, dishcloths are nice easy, short knitting projects that I like to have on the go all the time. I just love searching around in our local shops and online to find new cotton yarns I can use.
Dish and washcloths are also a good way of practising a new stitch or pattern.
