easy knit dishcloth pattern free with M design in mauve cotton yarn

After searching for a new project to make as a gift, I came across this easy knit dishcloth pattern that was free to use and had an ‘M’ design on it. I have two friends with names that begin with M and who love the colour purple. While waiting to pick up our elderly neighbours, I saw this lovely yarn in a shop right by the bus stop. I cannot resist 100% cotton yarn as I love making knitted dishcloths with it. I use them as quick knitting projects that I like to have on the go all the time.

I used some of this yarn to first make one of those hanging kitchen towels that fit over the oven handle. There was still yarn leftover, so naturally, I thought of making a dishcloth.

Normally, I like to make these cleaning cloths a bit bigger than the pattern. I find that they are a bit easier on your hands (especially for arthritic sufferers) when they are larger. However, I knew that the yarn I had left would probably not allow me to do this, so, for this dishcloth, I had to stick to the exact pattern.

Where to find the pattern

I always look for ideas for knitting patterns on Pinterest first. The site where I found this one was here: Wish I was Knitting at the Lake

This easy knit dishcloth was quick to make. However, it turned out to be a little small for my liking. If I had enough yarn, I would have made the outer garter stitch border a bit bigger. That way, I would not have had to adjust the “M” design, and it would have still been very easy to do.

Materials I Used

For this little dishcloth, I used very little yarn, so if you have 100% cotton yarn leftover from a previous project in your stash, then it could well be enough. About 90 yards or 82 metres will be enough. If not, then buy a ball (or two) as you will always find something to knit with it. Who wouldn’t love to get a personalised dishcloth as a gift?

How Easy Was it to Knit?

This design was really easy to do! I was able to knit it up in a couple of hours from start to finish. As you can see from the picture, it involves only the knit and purl stitches. For this reason, it is a good beginner knitted dishcloth project to start with. Carefully following the pattern row by row is all you need to do to get it finished.

These little projects make personalised small gifts for all kinds of occasions. My friend just loved it, especially the mauve colour.
