One of the first stitches you need to learn when learning to knit is how to easily create the garter knit stitch pattern. This pattern is created when you knit every row. In this post you will discover how easy it is to master. Practice it until you can do it without thinking because it forms the building blocks of most projects. Once you can do it, there are loads of things you can make with it!

Knitting Supplies You Need
That’s all you need!
Step by Step Instructions
First, you need to tie a slip knot, and cast on some stitches as shown in this post: HERE
You will then have the stitches on the left-hand needle, or as this video says – the non-dominant hand needle.
Then insert the needle from your right hand – dominant hand needle – into the first stitch on the other needle – underneath it- push it through to make a cross with both needles.
Now move the yarn so that it goes around the needle, then bring it through and slide it off.
Carry on repeating these steps for the rest of the stitches on the needle. What you end up with is all the stitches are now on the right-hand needle.
Now turn that right-hand needle over like turning a page, it now becomes the left-hand needle. Finally, take the needle which has no stitches on it – this becomes the right-hand needle and repeat as you did in the process described above.
With a bit of practice, you will soon master this stitch pattern. If you are keen to move along with your knitting then it’s important to give it a go, as it’s the most basic skill to do with knitting.
With this stitch mastered, you can move on to making useful and creative things for your home, family and friends.
