This delightful pair of toy giraffes measures around 23cm (9 inches), so they are not large, but big enough for young children to handle and cuddle.

What Yarn to Use

What I love about these 2 soft knitted toys is that they have been made of 100% cotton. I enjoy working with this natural yarn as it gives the project a soft texture, perfect for children.

The brand the creator recommends is Sirdar Cotton DK, but you could also use the Paintbox Cotton DK range, too, as it has a larger range of yarn from which to choose.

It comes in a big 100g ball. The 2 colours used are honey mustard yellow shade and a taupe greyish brown, but you can be as creative as you want.

What Size Needles are Required?

You will need to have a pair of 3.25mm (US 3 )single point straight needles.

When you are making toys you will always use a slightly smaller thickness of needle so that the stuffing does not show or pop out when the toy is filled.

What Else Do You Need?

You will need some toy filling to stuff them and a small amount of black yarn to embroider the eyes and nose.

To make these toys, you’ll need to know the basic knitting skills of knitting and purling, increases and decreases – that is, only the basic knitting skills required – and in other words, a beginner could easily make these toys.
