I am continually amazed at how generous knitting designers are in sharing their creations. If you are looking for free knitted doll patterns, you might consider making the Aimee doll by Claire Fairall. She has many patterns for toy and doll characters.
If you are searching for budget-friendly DIY ideas for Christmas gifts for children, this is one to consider.

Another feature to note is that this creation is knitted flat, which makes it ideal for new knitters. However, if you’re a more advanced knitter, it can be easily adapted for knitting in the round on dpns or using circulars and the Magic Loop method.
Materials Needed
As Aimee has been designed with an overall eclectic appearance, you will appreciate that to copy this style, you will need several coloured yarns. The good news is that you’ll only need small amounts of them and in double-knit weight. DK yarn is a weight often used by knitters, so you may already have some in your stash.
If you’re going to follow the colours exactly, then you’ll need the following colours –
- spearmint green
- pansy purple
- lilac and
- pink
You will find these shades and others in the Paintbox Yarns Simply DK range. There is a big choice in colours, so if you’re looking to personalise your doll, you’ll be able to pick your palette easily.
Knitting Needles
You will need 3.5mm and 4 mm needles. I find that shorter ones work best for me, as the number of stitches that you cast on is fewer, so there’s no need for the longer ones, which flap around.
Details about the Pattern
Aimee is knitted flat by creating basic shapes that are then seamed together and filled with toy stuffing. Her head, body, legs and feet are knitted as one shape. The arms are knitted flat and then seamed and filled. Aimee’s waistcoat and shorts are also knitted basic shapes.
I appreciate that this free doll pattern also gives instructions on how to make up the doll once all the knitting is completed, so you’re not left guessing what to do.
